Fri 1st March And so it Begins!

Hi all, It was great to meet everyone today, some of the Lit reviews were excellent. I hope the fear of tackling academic writing has begun to subside. The intention is to collect them in about 3-4 weeks time and put them together in a booklet. For those who are still working through overdue tasks, I'm still available to give feedback on your writing if you would like to still contribute to the booklet. Though there will be no further marks its a very useful skill to develop. Next Week   Wednesday  (6th)  starts your first full day of working on your Multimedia Development Project, I'm available all afternoon to support you with this, let me know how I can help.  Thursday  (7th)  I would like to meet you in your  project teams , At that stage, I would envisage a draft of GDD or similar for your project (please see the cdmonline site for further details) with an individual blog due on Sunday detailing your specific(individual) contribution to the project. The project

Cartoon: Lit reviews Week 6 (next week) is review week, during the Lab time I will be meeting you individually to review your writing and progress in general. Also during this lab slot, there will be an opportunity to experience a virtual reality simulation. Very rarely do I make a lab/lecture mandatory but this week coming they are. please make sure you attend your lab slot on Thursday. In addition, I hope your wrapping up of your Lit review is coming on nicely, those that attended the workshop seem to be progressing, the submission this week should be similar to the literature that you have been reading over the last 5 weeks

Tue 19th Feb Finishing up your writing!

Image: Increase the Effort Hope your 2nd-year projects have been coming on well. This weeks task is to finish up your Lit Review. If you have been following on over the last couple of weeks this task should only take an hour.  There was only 16 submitted and I have three main areas for feedback that all the papers should consider: Paragraphs should contain only one main idea with the research you have found supporting that an example of a paragraph layout might: Sentence 1 - introduction to the paragraph theme(idea) Sentence 2 what the theme(idea) is, Sentence 3 what the research you have found says about the theme(idea) and supports your view Sentence 4 conclusions of the paragraph Note each paragraph should not be on each paper that you have read, they should be the themes emanating from the paper so for example  theme 1 might have been in 3 papers,  theme 2 might have been discussed in 6 papers  theme 3 might have been discussed in only 1 paper.  in that

Tues 12th Feb next stage of academic writing

Image: academic writing This weeks work is two-fold . The first step is to continue on with the Annotated Bibliographies, you need 5 more that will add to your collection. remember the goal is to write a Lit review based on this research, the more effort in finding connected resources the easier it will be when you're at the stage to write. Following on from this I posted a video covering the stages for writing your Lit review, The annotated Bibliographies is step 1. Watch the video and then complete a draft of your document based on the suggestions from the video. Look out early next week for the tasks, the first will be giving feedback to your peers early in the week and then make the alterations to your Lit Review based on the comments for Sunday night, details to follow on  cdmonline.pbworks.com

Mon 11th Feb Annotated Bibliographies

Image
Image: Working Hard Only a small number completed this weeks task and they were of mixed quality. A majority of those who attended last weeks lab completed the task correctly. some of the common issues were: plagiarism - if you copy the paper word for word now you will more than likely to do the same when writing your Lit review, the purpose of writing these in your own words is to take away the risk of plagiarising your final paper. detail - these annotated bib's need to be a suitable detail in order to allow you to write your paper, that means at least 150 words in order to reach that level of detail Don't get this disheartened while working on this, as some of our other work this is a skill that we need to practice. Engage with the task in a positive mindset and ask for assistance when needed and I guarantee that your writing will improve! here are a couple of good examples of annotated bibliographies Example 1 Example 2

Thurs 7th Feb Writing workshop

What a great day of collaborative research planning! I hope you have enjoyed using Coggle as a mind mapping tool, it should help you to define your research and find keywords for researching and then continuing with an introduction of the library databases. Now that you have selected your component from the group Coggle for researching please produce 5 annotated bibliographies and follow the instruction from the wiki. Next week we will create 5 more and then look at how we might pull them together into one coherent document.
